As promised, “P” phones me from Lowestoft Contact Centre, to discuss my possible eligibility to Income Support. I told him I’ve just been on-line, looking up some of the more unusual reasons as to why a claimant might be eligible for I.S., & I found that if a person is “A Party To Proceedings”, that is one of the more obscure eligibility criteria for claiming I.S.
“P” said he was totally unaware of this “Party To Proceedings” criteria. He had to interrupt our discussion, as he had to go to a meeting. But he said he’d get some clarity on the issue at his meeting, then he’ll call me back.
I do find it quite odd that when I (a claimant) try to make a new claim for Income Support, I am the one that has to explain the eligibility criteria to the DWP Contact Centre Staff!
