The latest bombshell arrived through my letterbox today, from David Kinnair (Head of Benefits at Birmingham City Council). It states that I will only receive 50 pence per week for Housing Benefit, leaving me (& my son) to pay £99.88 per week rent !
In April and May 2018, I provided proof of my son’s income via the scanning service at Erdington Library. The Decision Notice from David Kinnair quotes a gross weekly income figure for my son of £269.01 per week.
I’d supplied proof of my son’s total income, minus expenses, and refunds etc, leaving a net figure, which is significantly less than the figure that Birmingham City Council are basing their calculation on.
It also states that I’ve been overpaid £379.44 HB, which they’re going to recoup from me!
I’ve already fired off an emailed complaint, asking them to reassess their new decision. But as today is Saturday, I can’t phone them until Monday at 9am when their phone line opens, on 0121 464 7000.
They’ve also increased the amount of Council Tax I must pay, without adequate explanation. Have they based their new figure on the incorrect income figure they quoted for my son?
